It's Time For Some Netiquette

So here's a thought..... Do you know that guy who always sends out those chain letters...

"Forward to the next 25 people or you will never fall in love"

Or those morons who type in ALL CAPS, ALL THE TIME

So you think you're getting yelled at by Mike Ditka like the Chicago Bears at a football game

But what really ticks me off are those people, usually your boss, or industry Professionals who either haven't realized spell check was invented or think they're too good for it, or possibly even "I took and English course in college, I know what I'm talking about"

I'm a real idiot who, just because I have more letters after my name than you do, can never ever be wrong, and I just wanted to inform you.

If you know someone like this, please sever their internet connection immediately.

If you are someone like this, you're probably more gullible than the average human so I want you to, lift your computer approximately 14.5 inches off the ground and drop it on your foot. Shame on you for wasting my time.

School So Far.....

This past week was my first week here at Johnson and Wales University. I've learned a lot here both on an educational an personal basis. My favorite thing about all the classes is the class size. Out of the technology classes the largest is 18 people, and that't the ENGN1000 or Digital Technology class. It's quite fast paced but the material is pretty easy to pick up. Even my English class, which is over the class limit, is smaller than any of my classes in high school. I remember people saying to me that campus food isn't all that great. Perhaps it's because I go to a culinary school, but I've got no complaints about it.

The only thing I don't like so far is the vast amount of Patriot and Eagles fans around here. I know it sounds silly, but being a huge New York Jets fan, especially after their defeating of the Patriots, it's quite a different thing for me. Overall it's been a great experience and I look forward to the next term, and being here in Providence.

Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship is something we should all be aware of in these highly modern and digital times. For my generation it's hard to imagine a world where we didn't know what our friends are doing on an hour-by-hour basis, or not be able to get whatever we want when we want it. But the principles outlined in digital citizenship give us guidelines for not abusing these everyday necessities. Although we may not know it, or even indirectly, online we interact with people. Doing everything from talking to some random stranger on Omegle to buying and selling on eBay. We're interacting with people who have emotions, and opinions of their own. Therein lies the importance. Everyone has rights, despite the Internet being described as the "Wild West" by certain FIT professors.....

Although he's not entirely wrong, he brings up an interesting point. There is room for improvement. Just as there is no more "Wild West" in modern times, I believe the principles of Digital Citizenship will evolve into what may become "cyber laws' on how we interact with others online. There is always room for change, in everything we do. Improvements can always be made.
I believe that although right now digital citizenship lists what is more like guidelines than actual rules, or laws I believe they are important to follow because you are interacting with other people. Even something simple, such as using a bit-torrent to download music. Something so simple nobody thinks about. In reality you're not giving the songwriters the money they deserve, or if not deserve at least have the rights to.
Digital Citizenship principles are a necessity to everyday living, in what is becoming a more and more technology driven world. If not following these principles just using common sense is also a very effective way doing the right thing, not only digitally but in everyday life.
